    MANDALA

           Buddhist Cender

Coconut Grove-Florida

For my thesis project I design a Buddhist Center.

It's a two story building located in Coconut Grove. The existing building "was demolished" in order to allowed a proper design for this center.

All the social areas of the center are located in the first floor, accessible to everyone.

On the second floor is where the dorms happened. By doing this I provide more privacy to the guests of the center that are there to stay for a couple of days.

The Center

Tibetan Buddhism inspired the design of Mandala; therefore, some of the most important symbols of it are represented in the design.

The main social area was design as a Mandala and is an open space to gather with other Buddhists. Also, it organized the rest of the spaces.

The building has two wings. The meditation wing accommodates the yoga studio, contemplation areas and a meditation salon for daily meditation.

The Gompa, or main meditation hall is accessible from the Mandala and was design to accommodate bigger groups of Buddhists.
